Every great tradition has to start somewhere. For the Lake Shore Great Dane Club, that moment arrived in the depths of a brutally cold and snowy Wisconsin winter, at the prestigious Renaissance Cluster in Madison — and it exceeded every expectation we dared to hold.
Over the course of a single remarkable weekend, eight specialties were offered, each one drawing the entries and quality needed to award a coveted five-point major. Eight times over, the ring filled with exceptional dogs and the devoted handlers who present them at their finest. It was, in every sense, the launch of something special.
The weekend also marked the debut of what has since become one of the most eagerly anticipated traditions at our shows: the Lake Shore raffle. What began as a simple idea blossomed immediately into a centerpiece of the weekend's energy and camaraderie — a testament to the spirit of the community that surrounds this breed.
None of this happened by accident. To the exhibitors who traveled from near and far to trust us with their first entry — thank you. To the dedicated professionals who judged and stewarded with such care and expertise — thank you. And to our club members, who gave so generously of their time, their effort, and their hearts to bring this vision to life — there are simply no adequate words. You made this weekend everything it was, and everything it has since inspired.
